AIG is supporting the health and well-being of customers through AIG Virtual Care
As head of the Accident and Health business covering the Europe, the Middle East, and Africa region, Martin Jorgensen is supporting the health and well-being of the communities AIG serves.
In his 24-year career in the insurance industry, AIG’s Martin Jorgensen has taken on various roles. As a multinational insurance broker in Denmark, Martin recalls helping individuals and companies manage risk and find insurance solutions to meet their needs. This led him to form his interest in the accident and health (A&H) insurance market.
“A&H sits at the intersection of property and casualty and the health market,” says Martin, who currently heads AIG’s A&H insurance business in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).
Martin is leading his team to develop products and services that anticipate the shifting healthcare needs of local clients – whether that includes equipping them with adequate insurance coverage in case of an accident or illness, or providing them with health and wellness services while traveling to a different country.
Empowering clients to proactively manage their health and well-being
Recently, AIG launched the AIG Virtual Care Program, a digital health platform available in 10 countries across Europe and nine languages, hand in hand with Teladoc Health, a global leader in whole-person virtual care.
The program is offered as an add-on service to individual and group accident products, as well as business travel insurance products. It aims to empower clients to proactively manage their health and well-being, providing them with greater flexibility through online access to healthcare professionals.
This is what customers want, Martin adds, as people’s needs and expectations for healthcare services evolve with the growing sophistication of technology:
“In the last few years, we have seen a shift in the way people think about and utilize health services. The program gives them convenient access to healthcare professionals without leaving their homes.”
By logging onto the platform from a smartphone, tablet, or computer, customers can access services for a range of health-related support, including non-emergency and general health issues, second medical opinions for complex conditions, and mental health coaching.
The virtual platform gives clients access to health services without having to manage issues associated with in-person appointments, such as limited mobility or lack of transportation. This can help clients receive earlier healthcare treatment and can help them make informed decisions that support their health.
“If patients are more at ease with their situation, it can also have a positive effect on the people around them,” Martin says.
In the wake of a serious diagnosis, for example, AIG Virtual Care can help lessen the anxiety of both clients and their families. Clients can request an expert medical review and opinion of their diagnosis and treatment plan, which can help them feel more comfortable entering treatment. In addition, clients can access a mental health coach to address the stress and emotions that can accompany physical illness.
“For me, job satisfaction includes a healthy bottom line while delivering client satisfaction,” Martin says. “By working together as a team, we can optimize the services we provide to our clients.”
AIG’s commitment to health and wellness starts with colleagues
In many ways, AIG’s commitment to supporting the health and well-being of clients mirrors the support it provides to colleagues to help them live healthy lives.
As part of AIG’s larger effort to provide programs that support its colleagues, the organization provides Wellness & Mental Health Days off. This global program gives colleagues the time and opportunity to relax, reflect, and focus on their mental and emotional health.
In addition, AIG colleagues in the EMEA region recently competed in a digital health challenge – a campaign that encouraged them to partake in healthy physical activities, including walking, running, and gardening. The challenge is aimed to support AIG colleagues’ physical health while promoting teamwork and allyship.
“Allyship is at the core of all we do here,” Martin said. “We are allies to our clients and brokers, our clients’ families and communities, and to one another as AIG colleagues.”
